Blessing from the Sky
In 1942 an intervention right from the sky saved life to Pavel Vránský in Tubruq. Shortly after a big storm he was sent to a reconnaissance. Vránský recalled: “Water was taking everything from its road with itself. When we were on our way back, I stepped a bit from the road and in that moment I brushed against something. The Italians were using landmines that launched when something cut the cord. The landmine always jumped about sixty centimeters above the ground and exploded in front of the region of a belly and genitals.” Pavel Vránský remembered: “I stood frozen because I noticed I cut the cord of a landmine. The detonator hissed and – nothing happened.” In the rain the gunpowder became moist and the mine did not explode. He was much luckier than the others who got into contact with landmines. Many of them were seriously wounded and others even died.
