The first tank
The actor Pavel Landovský recalls one of his visits to the famous wine bar Bystrica situated on the Národní třída Avenue. He was accompanied - among others - by Karel Gott in the bar. They were disturbed by a noise which they believed to be some loud radio play. "I said 'shut it up, we're drinking here...'.Suddenly Karel Gott said 'this is not a play, it's some band'. And we heard them coming here. I got out and there was a strayed tank standing on the Národní třída Avenue. Two prostitutes were hammering the panzer with their umbrellas screaming 'go home!' It was about eleven o'clock at night." The arrival of the tanks of the Warsaw Pact in 1968 changed Landovský's life, culminating with his forced emigration to Austria two years after his signing of the Charter 77.

Pavel Landovský
Pavel Landovský was born on September 11, 1936, in Německý (Havlíčkův) Brod in the family of an agricultural engineer. He completed an apprenticeship for a tool maker and graduated at a secondary school in Teplice. He began his acting career (without a formal acting education) in Šumperk and via Klatovy and Pardubice got to Prague, where he became one of the leading actors of the Drama Club of the 1960s. In 1977, he signed the Charter 77, took part in opposition activities and became an actor of the "flat theater" (Play Macbeth). In 1979, he left for two years to the Burgtheater in Austria, where he was subsequently forced to stay. After the revolution in 1989, he performed alternately on Czech and German stages and played a huge number of roles in theater and film. He is an important Czech actor and playwright. He acted - among other - in the following movies: Svatba jako řemen, Soukromá vichřice, Penzion pro svobodné pány, Markéta Lazarová, Nesnesitelná lehkost bytí, Černí baroni, Vratné lahve. His theatre plays include: Hodinový hotel, Případ pro vesnického policajta, Arest, Sanitární noc, Protentokrát zbohatnem.
