And the article was published
On 23 February 1948, the journalist Jiří Ješ took part in the first student procession to Prague Castle. As a reporter for the daily Svobodné slovo (Free Word) based in Melantrich publishing house, he planned to write a news report about the event. “When I came to Melantrich, there was just one night reporter there – Vladimír Zizius. I wondered how it was possible that there was no one else present during such a crisis? But he really was all alone there. He told me: ‘It’s good you’re here, I’m going to the typesetting room, I’ll try to set tomorrow’s edition. Do you know what went on at Prague Castle?’ I replied: ‘Yes, that’s why I’m here, I came to write it up.’ My colleague left and at that moment the phone rang. I heard Prokop Drtina on the other end, he was one of the discharged ministers. He knew my father very well and we also knew each other a bit. Drtina said: ‘Do you, at Svobodné slovo, know about the manifestation at Prague Castle? I’m at home, if something happened, call me, here’s my number.’ Then the night reporter came and told me we wouldn’t have a morning edition, that the cops were there and they said they wouldn’t allow it. I immediately phoned back to Prokop Drtina. He said: ‘Put me through to the typesetting room.’ I don’t know what followed, but the issue was published.”
