In the early 1940s, Prlov became the base of operations of band of partisans who gradually got in touch with paratroopers sent from the Soviet Union and with partisan groups retreating from Slovakia after the failed Slovak National Revolt. This lively communication between the Prlov villagers and partisans did not escape the notice of the Gestapo and its informants. When the villagers awoke in the morning of 23 April 1945, Prlov was already surrounded. After several fruitless interrogations, the Gestapo began setting fire to houses, and even forced their captives into some of them. The massacre cost 23 of the locals their lives.
