Libeň has been a part of Prague since 1901 and has been intensively developing ever since. The area staked out by Hájek hill, the so-called English brewery, the Rokytka River and Zenklova Street residential area of brick apartment houses came into existence in the 1920s and 1930s. The ground plan of the intersecting streets U Libeňského pivovaru, Pivovarnická and Bednářská still testifies to the fact that it had been a comprehensive urban plan. In Pivovarnická Street No. 15, the Strnad family had lived since 1934. They were executed during the reprisals after the assassination of Heydrich for aiding the soldiers who carried out the assassination. Their courage is newly commemorated by a memorial plaque installed on the house.
