The apartment in Biskupcova Street No. 1745/7 in Žižkov was occupied by the family of a state-railway company inspector, Alois Moravec. His wife, Marie, a member of the volunteer nurses of the Red Cross, became one of the most devoted supporters of Jan Kubiš, Jozef Gabčík, and other paratroopers sent from England to the Protectorate. The older son of Alois and Marie, Miroslav, went into exile in 1939 and fought in the ranks of the 313th Czechoslovak fighter squadron. He died in 1944 in a crash while taking off for an operational flight. The younger son Vlastimil "Aťa" Moravec, a fresh graduate of a business school, joined the network of resistance fighters who were helping the paratroopers. Marie Moravcová died on 17 June, 1942, after she had swallowed deadly poison during the arrest by the Gestapo. Her husband Alois and her son Vlastimil were executed on 24 October, 1942, in Mauthausen. Her sister Karolína Králová with her husband František, Vlastimil's fiancée Věra Löblová, her brother Miroslav, and her mother Irena were killed in Mauthausen as well.
